Delete your Gathivo account
Effective date: 15 September 2026 Last updated: 15 September 2026
1. About this page
Gathivo is an event discovery and ticketing app for South Africa, published by Gathivo. This page explains how to delete your Gathivo account, how to ask for specific personal information to be deleted or corrected without closing your account, what we delete, what we keep, and how long we keep it.
You do not need to sign in to read this page or to send us a request from it.

2. Delete your account from the app
This is the fastest route, and the one to use if you can still sign in. Deletion takes effect immediately.
- Open the Gathivo app and sign in.
- Go to Profile.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm by entering your current password.
We ask for your password because deletion cannot be undone. Once it completes, your account is closed and you are signed out on every device.
3. If you cannot sign in
Use the request form at the bottom of this page, or email us at [email protected] from the address on the account.
A request sent this way is not automatic. A person at Gathivo reviews it, confirms the account belongs to you, and then carries out the same deletion described in section 5. We respond within 30 days. Submitting the form records your request — it does not delete anything by itself.
4. One thing that can block deletion
You cannot delete your account while you still organise an event that has not finished — that is, an event that is Published, has Registration closed, or is Ongoing. If you try, the app tells you:
You still organise an event that has not finished. Cancel it or hand it over before deleting your account.
Cancel the event or hand it over to another organiser, then delete your account. Events that are Draft, Completed or Cancelled do not block deletion.
This exists to protect the people who bought tickets from you.
5. What we delete
The moment deletion runs, the following are destroyed and cannot be recovered:
- Your profile picture, removed from storage along with its file record.
- Your sign-in tokens and API sessions.
- Your device tokens for push notifications.
- Your saved and favourited events.
- Your notification preferences.
- Your notifications.
6. What we overwrite so it no longer identifies you
We do not keep your identity in a hidden copy. The account record itself is overwritten in place, and then closed:
| Field | What it becomes |
|---|---|
| Name | Deleted account |
| Email address | An unusable internal address at deleted.invalid |
| Phone number | Removed |
| Email and phone verification | Removed |
| Password | Replaced with a random value that nobody holds |
| "Remember me" token | Removed |
| Profile picture link | Removed |
| Suspension reason | Removed |
To be plain about it: this is anonymisation, not the erasure of every row. The account record survives in a closed, de-identified state so that the records in section 7 still make sense.
7. What we keep, and why
Your registrations, tickets and payment or transaction records are kept. They stay attached to the now-anonymous account, so they are no longer linked to a name, email address or phone number.
We keep them because an organiser has to be able to reconcile an event that has already happened, and because a ticket that disappears in the middle of an event means somebody is turned away at the gate.
We also write an entry in our security audit log recording that an account deletion took place. It records that an erasure happened. It does not record who you were.
8. How long we keep it
Retained registration, ticket and payment records are kept for 5 years, and then deleted.
Five years is the period South African tax and company record-keeping obligations require. POPIA permits personal information to be retained for longer than it is needed where retention is required by law, and this is that case.
9. After deletion
Your email address is released. If you want to use Gathivo again later, you can register a new account with the same address. It will be a new account — the previous account's history is not restored to it.
10. Deleting some of your information without closing your account
You do not have to close your account to have personal information removed or corrected. Section 24 of POPIA gives you the right to ask us to correct or delete personal information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, out of date, incomplete, misleading, or obtained unlawfully.
You can do these yourself, in the app, straight away:
- Change your name, phone number and profile picture under Profile.
- Clear your saved and favourited events.
- Change or switch off your notification preferences.
For anything else, use the request form at the bottom of this page and choose Delete or correct specific information, or email [email protected]. Tell us what you want removed or corrected. We respond within 30 days.
What we cannot delete on request. We cannot remove the registration, ticket and payment records described in section 7 for as long as the law requires us to keep them, or where they are needed to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim. If we turn a request down, we tell you why.
